Do it yourself

What you need to light it yourself.

Every LED strip needs power. Color changing strips also need a controller. Here's how the pieces go together.

Diagram: a single color strip needs a connector and a power supply, an RGB strip needs an RGB controller and a power supply

One color

Strip + connector + power supply. Good for one color along the eaves.

Color changing (RGB)

Strip + RGB controller + power supply. The controller is what lets you pick the color.

Pixel string

String + controller + power supply. The 100 pixel RGBW string doesn't come with either, so text Chris and he'll tell you what to pair it with.

  1. Match the voltage

The waterproof 5 meter strips here are 12V, so they go with a 12V power supply.

  2. Mind the cold

The 12V wall adapter is rated for 0 to 40°C. The MEAN WELL 12V supply is rated down to -30°C.

  3. Hold it down outside

The rubber mounts are made for outdoor strips. Each one wraps the strip and goes in with two screws.

  4. Cut to length

The single color waterproof strip can be cut every 3 LEDs without hurting the rest of it.

  5. Join without solder

Open the top of a quick connect, slide the strip in under the pins, then snap it shut.

  6. Turn corners

Use an L adaptor at a corner. Line the arrow on the adaptor up with the +12V mark on the strip.
